Finding snacks as a vegan is very easy, most chips, crackers, pretzels and such are all vegan and it only comes to making a dip without dairy to complete the picture. As a gluten free vegan things get much trickier. I love a good snack and sometimes I even make snack food for a meal. Of course we can always count on fruit to work out but if you ever want something with more substantial here are a few ideas.
My personal favorite and go-to snack is almost always hummus with carrots. I generally add hot sauce on this but photographed it without hotsauce in this case so you can actually see the hummus!
- 1 can chick peas
- 1 clove garlic
- dash of salt
- dash of cumin (optional)
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- olive oil
Put all the ingredients into the food processor (or blender) and blend while adding olive oil. Add until smooth.
Another favorite snack is apples with peanut butter. I always mix some maple syrup into my peanut butter to give it some sweetness (since I get the natural peanut butter that has no sweetener).
Positively delicious and very refreshing because of the juicy apples.
While we’re on the peanut butter kick I may as well mention the glorious nanner sammy.
Sliced banana filled with peanut butter and drizzled with honey. I’m a little OCD and have to eat this with a fork but it’s a super easy and very filling. A great pre or post work out snack.
Of course there’s always chips and salsa. I make my own salsa so it gets turned into a really cheap snack.
- 1 can diced tomatoes
- 1 fresh jalapeno
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/4 onion
- cumin
- salt
- cilantro
Put all ingredients in the blender and blend away!
So those are a few ideas. I really enjoy a good snack and can’t have a diet that doesn’t include them so I’m lucky there are a lot of options out there that I can eat. Don’t forget other ones like green smoothies, all fruits and nuts too.
And now, (drumroll please) the obligatory precious Avery photo of the day! In this picture he was chilling in the sling and holding in his pacifier. So here’s my mommy view picture.

Those snacks look awesome. Love the idea of mixing pb with maple syrup. Yummy!
Love the snack options! I will eat carrots with anything: salsa, hummus, nut butter, mustard, bbq sauce…I’ll stop there.
I am loving that banana sammie. What a gorgeous foodie photo!
Love carrots and pb, so good! And I’d totally eat that naner with a fork also, I hate sticky fingers.
