Well my cold frame now contains some delightful trays of fresh lettuce and my fridge is full of lettuce too…from my Dad’s batch, growing in their greenhouse. I decided to make a salad with several deliciously fresh lettuce varieties on a plate from an awesomely green sushi set that I got for Christmas from my little brother in law (perfect gift for me!).
This set had particularly cool plates. I love sushi dishes for everything. I use the sushi bowls for tea cups and the chop sticks for cooking. This set has a green glaze and we all know that’s right up my alley.
Now, remember how I was just saying that I make single servings of dressing for every salad because I’m too lazy to find a container to put more in? Well, my mom got me a Christmas gift from Pampered Chef to take care of that problem!
It’s a salad dressing mixer/container. Not only does it have a very nifty mixer thing (hard to see in this picture with the dressing in it however, cool none the less) but the sides of the container has multiple recipes for different dressings from Asian to Ceasar! Love it.
The rest of today was spent vegging, shopping, and trying hard to sleep. Avery had a very rough night last night and I sure felt wiped out this morning. So tired I felt like just crying. I have always had an easy baby so I never had those early motherhood rough nights ( I usually only got up twice a night) but last night I was up twice an HOUR because he would cry like he was really hurting. I know all of his cries and this one was from pain. I used the teething gel to numb his mouth in case it was that….I rubbed baby benedryl on his gums to ease his congestion from the cold he has but nothing was working. I noticed he was kicking a lot whenever he cried which used to be his signature ‘gassy’ sign but he hasn’t had gas for nearly two months and he was freely farting so I knew it wasn’t that. At about six thirty in the morning I figured it out….he is totally constipated. I didn’t think about it until then but he hadn’t pooped for days. The longest I’ve counted him going without pooping was four days but it seems like it’s been longer this time so it makes sense. All day, I tried different things to help him out like drinking orange juice, propping him on his belly with his legs folded underneath him and feeding him a lot. Hopefully it works, but he hasn’t pooped yet today:(
So here’s the little buddy sitting around and loving every second of it. He’s so responsive and fun these days.
I managed to get a twenty minute nap in while he was sleeping and Shane can attest that I was a lot less grumpy and lame after that.
Question: To all the mommy’s out there, what do you do to help your baby’s constipation?

OH my DEAR friend. Harrison had this issue A LOT but not until we started cereal (that I can remember). Ask the ped, but we did Kayro syrup for him in a bottle (of pumped breast milk, of course). It was MAGICAL!!! Totally worked for him.
Poor little man. I think some kids are just predisposed to constipation and some are not. H and S are the EXACT opposite on this matter.
I’m SO sorry he’s having this trouble.
AH! Another thought. I used to give Harrison a little “help” by lubing up a Q-Tip or Thermometer with vasaline and gently pushing on his little bowels.
Also, pulling the knees up to his little chest and back down (for up to 5 minutes). I make it a little game with Sawyer. She loves it. We also do the “eat your feet” game. LOL.
How rough! No fun to see them struggling. When they get to where they can eat I would cut up a prune and let them naw on that or make homemade applesauce (DON’T PEEL) and that was a sure fire. But my poor baby boy had/has a harder time down there than my daughter has ever had. I do yoga twists with his legs: he lays on his back and I bend his legs and push them to one side and then the other…seems to help work things down. I like to push their knees into the belly and help them stand up (the walking and standing action helps out). Before Joy was even close to walking I put here in a stationary walker (it was broken lol) and almost everytime she’d have a blow out. All I can think is the gravity and use of legs that helped work it down. Good luck!
Is this what I have to look forward to next year?! [Preggo w/ our first!]
How old is he?
Okay you didn’t lie it was safe – totally cute pic!
Sorry Avery isn’t feeling well
I have that same dressing thing and I LOVE IT!
When my son was little it seemed that he would only go every other day, sometimes longer. The one thing that always worked for him was to put a little baby lotion on my hand and make little circles, pressing gently, around his belly button in a clockwise motion. It massages the colon and helps move things along. I still do this when he gets plugged up now, and he’s four. Works every time.
My best friend said her baby is having the same problem! He is breast fed and rarely goes… I wonder if this is fairly common for young babies? I hope you can find the solution soon so you can both get some decent sleep!
Oh,those “in pain” cries just break my heart. Fortunately it doesn’t happen to often, but the other day poor Noah had such awful gas pains that I was almost crying too. So tough to watch. You just feel so helpless!
