Just wanted to post a few of the yummies I’ve been eating the past few days. I’ll start with the best just because it’s the first chronologically. We went out to eat with my parents on Saturday at Swagger, a little dive in our town renown for it’s burgers and sandwiches. Even Guy Fieri stopped by on Diner’s Drive Ins and Dives. Shane’s been a few times but this was my first visit and I was quite impressed.

I had an Ahi Ahi tuna sandwich and it was HUGE.

Seared and nearly raw in the middle. It was perfect. The fries were to die for as well!

It was a lovely time. Sort of a celebration of the end of my parent’s busy season. Avery got to hang out with Granddad too.

Mom was taking a picture at the same time and mine captured the second her little red light for focus flashed Avery’s face. haha. They also gave me a lovely bouquet! It made my dining ‘room’ so  bright and cheerful.

I whipped up a black bean salsa later in the weekend with black beans, corn, cilantro, diced tomatoes, onions, peppers and tons of spices.

I love black bean salsa. It gets so creamy with the beans blended in. I put them in the food processor and it did the trick nicely.

This morning I made some biscuits because all I wanted was something dripping with honey.

I won’t lie, I had two of these. I feel like having one right now and to be honest, I’m not sure I will stop myself.

I’m re-training Avery not to eat during the night so I am about to CRASH. It’s ain’t easy folks, kids like their comfort food! The first night wasn’t too bad, around 10:30pm he woke up wanting to eat and I respectfully declined and he cried and cried off and on until after midnight. It wasn’t the nice kind of cry but the angry, spoiled kind and so it wasn’t too hard to be strong. Then he slept the rest of the night. Last night though, he woke up at 11:30pm and cried for about forty minutes, then was up again at 2:15 and cried for twenty minutes and then again at 4…….finally he got up for good at 6am. Basically that means I barely barely slept.

So I’m going to eat a biscuit and rest…also some tea. I need tea majorly right now.

Question: Mama’s, did you have to wean your baby from night feedings? Avery is nine months old and wanting to feed once or twice a night but really only latches on for a little until he drifts off to sleep so I know it’s not a hunger thing, but a comfort thing.

Well both of my kids were formula fed so we didn’t really have a big problem with feedings up until we dropped the bedtime feeding when the “adult” food kicked in. We went through the same thing with each child trying to comfort themselves, and I won’t lie…I’ve comforted my children with food to make things easier on occasion. Not sure how you feel about pacifiers (considering he is almost 10 months right?), but that might do the trick for awhile. BUT, it might just be easier to let him cry it out for a couple of days – wear some ear plugs (I did) and keep telling yourself it’s for their own good :)

Yes, our pediatrician advised to wean our twins off the night time feeds shortly after we started solids. Assuming they’re getting enough to eat (calories) during the day, the night time’s are purely comfort. At this stage of development, a full nights sleep is much more essential than a night time feed. Adam would wake at 4am for the longest time…UNTIL we just stopped getting him up. He honestly only cried about 10 minutes for about 3 days and we were done. They still get up early though, 5:30 to 6:00 but they go down at 7 with no wake ups so really, is it that bad? I’m still envious of Avery sleeping until 7:30 though:)

we did CIO sleep training to cut his wakeups down. he was up to like 7 wakeups a night. GAH. that was april and my rule was “no boob until 4 AM”. he cried for like an hour hysterically each night for TWO FREAKIN WEEKS. torture. and then it worked. he was sleeping until 5 am or 6 am and it was heaven. but then the 5 am wakening became 4 am. then it became 3 and i broke my rule. then 2 and then last night he got up at 12 am, 3 am, and thought 5 am was a good time to start the day (trust me it wasn’t). tonight i reinstate the “no boob until 4 am” rule and it aint gonna be pretty!!!!!!!!!!

“Triple D” has come to a few places here in AZ and we love going and trying out what was featured on the show. Your meal look scrumptious!
Ok, I forget how yummy black bean salsa is! I need to make some asap! 6 am isn’t too early is it ;)
My guy sounds about right where Avery is. Last night he went to bed just before 8 & woke up twice to eat. Once at 11 then at 4. During the day I tell myself that I wont feed him at his first wake up, but then when im in the moment I say, well we’re both awake, may as well feed him and hope he doesn’t wake again. But he always does. For a while he was only waking up once at 3 to eat. I seem to have a lower supply in the evenings, so I feel like he needs to eat. We’re working on upping his intake of solids during the day, but he’s not quite “there” yet.
