So, yesterday was an amazing diaper free day. We had only one accident and he even asked to use the toilet when he needed to go #2! His one accident was the first pee of the morning and I felt pretty discouraged when it happened because he didn’t communicate at ALL. Not a flinch, not a glance, nothing. I felt like the half day of success before was a complete wash.
However, the rest of the day was accident free except for an unfortunate incident where I was going to the bathroom and he ran in, tried to take me off the toilet and then peed on the bathroom floor. haha
Today started out great though! He let me know for each pee even though he often fought actually getting onto the toilet (sat and peed just fine once on) he never once didn’t let me know he needed to go. I had a friend over with her baby and the two times he went to the bathroom during that time he didn’t actually come to me and say he needed to go but I have become extremely well versed in his signals and that worked just fine.
By the end of the day he was running in front of me to the bathroom and trying to get on the toilet himself! There were times when he needed to go within fifteen minutes of already going but I know better than to think that he wasn’t genuine.
To be honest, I can see the light. I can see how it will be when I don’t have to deal with my sons output on an hourly basis. It’s really exciting because even though he can’t get on the toilet himself yet it’s already incredible not to change diapers or the carpet.

Reading books on the bathroom floor after ‘going’. That is the seat we use for #2…
So today we had zero accidents and it was perfect. Incredibly perfect. I loved the interaction we got to have all day even though it was kind of exhausting to always be observing him for signals. I think that in the days to come I will have to observe much less. I can already see that he’s forgotten that diapers are ‘normal’ and the new normal is the toilet.
So that is the low down around here. I’m really proud of Avery and how well he’s adapted to such a big change. I’m also freaking out that he’s such a big kid.

Question: How long did it take to potty train your kids? I’m hoping to spend next week letting him get used to underwear…..we’ll see how it goes!

Good job, Avery!
My oldest trained pretty fast and easy, right after he turned 2. He hates being dirty so it only took a couple times of going in his underwear to teach him.
My daughter was a different story… She could have cared less about having messy undies, and would pee on the floor right in front of me. I finally gave up and put her back in diapers for a month, and when we re-started training it only took 2 days!
Good luck with everything. I hope he continues doing well!
you are making such huge progress in such a short time!! i’m proud of both you & little A. it takes a team effort, your commitment to observing him is such a huge key to his success. i can only imagine how tiring that could be while nursing full time as well. more power to ya, mama!! xo
{STILL no baby!!! i’m soooooooo….oh my…so so so ready.}
You are my hero! Not only for getting him trained but doing it with an infant! Hooray Avery!
