A Big Step

Recently I made a big decision. I will no longer be a Vegan. However, this doesn’t mean I’ll be eating tons of meat and dairy because my reasons for this diet change are very specific. Due to an important physical change I decided that I would be including eggs and seafood into my diet. I’m doing this to get certain nutrients that aren’t very prominent in my diet that I supplement but feel like my supplements are not fulfilling the need. Not right now at least. This is probably not a permanent change but for the rest of this year at least. I will be including raw eggs in many of my smoothies and occasional seafood. The seafood will help me get iron and B vitamins and zinc. I currently supplement zinc and B-12 but don’t feel that my supplements are doing very much. I have no clear source of iron in my diet except for the rare use of an iron skillet. Eggs also contain these vital minerals and vitamins that I’m not getting enough of. I will continue to supplement vitamin D, B-12 and zinc but will hopefully be getting enough iron from my foods. I don’t plan on supplementing iron because of the dangers of liver damage.

My philosophy on food has not changed at all as far as what I’ll be eating. I will be getting only organic eggs and eating the freshest, non-farm seafood. However, I will no longer be a Vegan. It’s a hard decision but one that I’ve made for myself because my health is more important than a label.
