Homemade Toothe Paste

Here’s another post from my Mom. She’s very good at making natural alternatives to everyday staples and this time it’s toothpaste! I’ll let her describe the process in her own words…

I got interested in making my own toothpaste when I got tired of paying so much for toothpaste at Whole Foods.  The reason I was buying it there is because I was suspicious of so many of the ingredients in regular toothpaste.  Almost all of them have sodium laureth sulfate and other potentially dangerous ingredients.  I also read about fluoride and decided I didn’t want to risk that either.  So I experimented and finally found a recipe I like.  Here it is:

3 T. calcium carbonate powder (purchased at iherb.com)
2 T. baking soda
1/2 t. sea salt
3-4 T. vegetable glycerin
Peppermint or lemon essential oil to taste
Here are the ingredients and supplies.
Put the dry ingredients in a bowl and mix them first.
Then add the vegetable Glycerin and peppermint oil or any other flavor you’d like.
Mix it with the powder ingredients.
Until they looks smooth and fully joined. Then get an old toothpaste tube and cut the end off.
Put the toothpaste in from the back and fill. Once it’s full fold the end and use a clamp to shut it.
Then you have a tube of natural toothpaste with no scary ingredients for far cheaper!
